Sioux Falls is coming off a Clark Cup championship season, and will need a big makeover if they want a chance to repeat.
This is the last of the 2008 previews.
Key Departures:
Corey Tropp-One of the better players in the league.
Ryan Guentzel-Assist machine.
Zach Redmond-Defensive leader.
Dan Sexton-Great penalty killer.
Matt Lundin-Led team to Clark Cup.
Goalie (1):
Max Strang (1989) - Impressive 10-4 record, will be 3rd year guy.
Goalie Evaluation:
Strang should be ready to take the reins of a USHL club now that it will be his third year. He came in and challenged Lundin and helped push him to be better. Expect Hartzell to bring in a capable goalie to compete with Strang.
Defense (1):
Jeff Foss (1988) - Lots of talent, lone returner.
Defense Evaluation:
Sioux Falls will lack leadership and experience on defense come next season with just Foss returning.
Forwards (7):
Jake Hansen (1989) - This kid will be great.
Jake Drewiske (1987) - Doesn't seem to have a lot of offensive upside, but definitely a role player and a leader.
Robbie Vrolyk (1989) - Small, but fast.
Jordy Christian (1988) - Loads of talent, should produce more.
David Grun (1987) - Big kid, started to turn it on towards the end of the year.
Nick Dineen (1989) - Lots of ice time, could go to CC.
Drew Fisher (1987) - Finally broke out and put up points.
Forward Evaluation:
Sioux Falls has some of the better Minnesota High School talents in Hansen, Christian, and Grun. These guys should be atop the team in points. Dineen, if he stays, will also be near the top of the point leader list. Fisher took awhile to get going, but he took off last season and never looked back. Expect a big year from him. Drewiske could wear the C next season.
Futures Evaluation:
I don't know a whole lot about the players on their futures list, but I know that Scott Kishel, Aaron Ness, and Anthony Raiola have loads of talent. Eric Hartzell could step in and challenge Strang for the #1 goalie spot.
Overall Evaluation: C

Waterloo Black Hawks 2007-08 Preview
Waterloo is coming off a hard fought loss in the championship game to Sioux Falls. They did beat Des Moines in a thriller the night before, but couldn't pull it off two nights in a row. P.K. O'Handley will have a good core to build around, most namely goalie Matt DiGirolamo.
Key Departures:
Joshua Turnbull-One of the best players on the team.
James Marcou-Led team in scoring with 72 points.
Kyle Reeds-Became a go to goal scorer.
Matt Arhontas-Team leader.
Ryan Cramer-Impressive rookie season.
Goalie (1):
Matt DiGirolamo (1988) - One of the top goalies in the league.
Goalie Evaluation:
DiGirolamo should be atop the goalie leaders again next season. Last season, he had to split time with Ryan Rondeau, but he should head into the new season as the team's go to guy.
Defense (3):
Jon Madden (1987) - Not very offensive, but effective.
Pasko Skarica (1987) - Solid year, but he's still pretty slow.
Blake Kessel (1989) - One of the team's best defensemen.
Mike Marcou (1989) - If he's anything like his brother, watch out.
Defense Evaluation:
Madden and Kessel will anchor the blue line for the Hawks. Skarica can come back, but was not protected. Waterloo will need plenty of help on the blue line come next season with the losses of Brett Barta, Vincent LoVerde, and John Lee.
Forwards (8):
Paul Weisgarber (1988) - Decent first year, had a huge goal against Cedar Rapids to close out the regular season.
Tim Gilbert (1987) - Not protected, but a gritty type player and a possible 3rd year guy.
Craig Smith (1989) - Seemed to become more physical as the season went on.
Brett Olson (1987) - Had a big year, really excelled in the playoffs.
Billy Maday (1988) - Bothered by injuries, should be ready for a full year of USHL hockey.
Keegan Meuer (1989) - Limited production in limited ice time.
Jan-Mikael Juutilainen (1988) - Time to show why he was an NHL draft pick.
Forward Evaluation:
Waterloo returns some excellent talent up front. Maday will compete for the team's points lead, while Smith and Weisgarber should double their output. Waterloo will need guys like Meuer and Juutilainen to mature and put up a few more points next season. Olson and Gilbert can be leaders for this team.
Futures Evaluation:
Waterloo boasts some of the best talents in their futures list. Leading the way are forwards Brock Montpetit, Mike Fink, and Andrew Hamburg, along with defenseman Chris Student. Eric Ringel had an excellent year in the NAHL, and he could be a wild card of making the Hawks out of camp.

Des Moines Buccaneers 2007-08 Preview
Des Moines had an impressive playoff run, but came up short against Waterloo. Des Moines will have a lot of re-building to do, as they lose a ton of talent. Coach Simon is a guy who can do that though, as he's made in pretty far in the playoffs in his first two years at the helm.
Key Departures:
Jeff Petry-One of the best defenseman in the league.
Shane Sims-Good defenseman.
Aaron Palushaj-Excellent player, can score.
Richard Purslow-Led team with 82 points.
Ben Ryan-Quality forward.
Matt Read-Team leader and top point getter.
Matt Dalton-Team's #1 goalie.
Goalie (1):
Jordan Tibbett (1990) - I believe the Bucs were able to protect him, but he's an excellent talent and should be ready to be the #1 in Des Moines.
Goalie Evaluation:
Tibbett is still very young, but he got some much needed experience in Omaha and in Des Moines. Tibbett will need to elevate his play a little bit if he wants to be the go to guy like Dalton was this year.
Defense (4):
Bobby Reiners (1987) - Season cut short due to injuries, should be back at full health.
Ben Rosen (1989) - Got better as the season went on.
Austin Handley (1990) - Extremely young, but found his way into the lineup a lot.
Ryan Ruikka (1988) - Stay at home defenseman, won't score many point.
Defense Evaluation:
It's nice to have their captain back in Reiners, but their defense looks really depleted. Rosen and Handley will need to step it up offensively if they want to fill any part of the shoes Petry and Sims left unfilled. Ruikka won't put up the big points or make the flashy play, but he will do his job and that's to keep the puck away from his goalie.
Forwards (9):
Chris Knowlton (1989) - Not a flashy rookie season, but something to build on.
Michael Dorr (1988) - Could lead the team in points.
Kyle Bailey (1988) - If not for the PP, Bailey would have been below average point wise.
Taylor Matson (1988) - Excellent player, could challenge Dorr for team lead in points.
Derek Elliot (1987) - Not a bad rookie campaign.
Nate Dewhurst (1990) - Should get more games and point total will climb.
Ben Van Lare (1987) - Quality player, increased his point total from last season.
Andrew Blazek (1988) - 6 points isn't going to cut it.
Rody Selk (1987) - Seemed to be a fan favorite, not much offensive upside though.
Forward Evaluation:
Dorr and Matson should lead this team in points, with guys like Bailey and Van Lare close behind. If the Iowa boys, Elliot and Dewhurst, can step up and help produce, the Bucs should be fine when it comes to the offensive side of things. Knowlton, Blazek, and Selk didn't produce much for points, but now that the big offensive weapons are gone, it could now be their time to shine.
Futures Evaluation:
The Buccaneers boast big name prospects in Adam Mueller, Ben Blood, and Nick Pryor. Mueller and Blood should see the ice in Des Moines next season, where Pryor will most likely see it in 2008. Des Moines has a few other solid players such as goalie Michael Milana, forwards Josh Fodor and Steve Moses, and Adam Estoclet, though he is penciled in to Dartmouth's plans for next fall.
Overall Evaluation: C

Indiana Ice 2007-08 Preview
Indiana had a rough regular season, but really turned it on in the playoffs. They lost to eventual Clark Cup champions, Sioux Falls Stampede in the opening game in the USHL Final Four.
Key Departures:
Eric Olimb-One of the team's better defenseman.
Garrett Roe-Offensive leader.
Eric Kattelus-Good player.
Mike Embach-Feisty, tough player.
Alex Kangas-Top goalie.
Goalies (1):
Cody Reichard (1987) - Stats didn't improve much from last season.
Goalie Evaluation:
If Indiana wants to contend, I believe they will need to find a more capable goalie than Reichard. He's a solid backup, but he's definitely not the type of goalie I'd want to depend on.
Defense (6):
Ryan Scott (1987) - Big kid, might be better suited as a forward.
Matt Smith (1988) - Decent size, I like his potential.
Mike Blundon (1987) - Big, but looks confused on the ice.
Eddie Levens (1987) - Not a bad rookie campaign, should have a bigger role next season.
Robert Martini (1988) - How can you not love that name?
Nick Bailen (1989) - 3rd year guy, should be a leader on the team.
Defense Evaluation:
Indy could return a good core of defensemen, but with so many 87's on the team, Scott, Blundon, and Levens need to work extra hard to secure a spot on the blue line. Bailen should log a lot of ice time next fall and Smith should get some looks from D-I scouts.
Forwards (5):
Jake Skjodt (1987) - Pleasant surprise, should score another 20+ goals.
Brent Gwidt (1988) - Disappointing rookie season, but Gwidt should improve.
Brian Arrigoni (1987) - Not many points for a forward, but the kid has speed.
Ron Cramer (1988) - Increased point total by 17.
John Kemp (1987) - Kemp will be atop the offensive leader board all year.
Forward Evaluation:
Indiana returns two of their top three scoring threats in Kemp and Skjodt. These two should continue to lead the Ice in scoring. I have a feeling Gwidt will be in for a big year and he will prove why he was worthy of an NHL draft pick. Cramer made strides this season and should continue to build on that. Arrigoni needs to step up his offense if he wants to stick around.
Futures Evaluation:
Indiana has a top prospect that should be suiting up for them next season by the name of Nico Sacchetti. He has a scholarship to Minnesota already, and he's going to be a real good player for the Ice. Indy also has talent in Kyle Bonis, John Carlson, Paul Carey, and Karl Ramolla. The Ice will need to hope Bowling Green decides to have Brennan Vargas play another year of juniors. After next season, they have a stud waiting in the wings by the name of Jordan Schroeder.

Tri-City Storm 2007-08 Preview
The Storm had a nice playoff run, but it came up a little short. Coach Littler will have them right back in the mix come next fall. I will be taking a look at their potential returnees.
Key Departures:
Calle Ridderwall-Leading scorer with 64 points.
Jesse Martin-2nd on team in scoring.
Matt Ambroz-Big kid, came up big for the Storm.
Mario Lamoureux-Team captain.
Ian Keserich-Team's #1 goalie.
Goalie (1):
Aaron Rock (1987) - Came back from the OHL, could be a top goalie in this league again.
Goalie Evaluation:
Rock has played at this level before, and he did pretty well. He didn't get a ton of games in after coming back to Kearney, but he was solid in goal come playoff time. Rock can lead this team in net with his stellar play, and he should be able to steal a few games when needed.
Defense (4):
Kyle Ensign (1988) - Bothered by injuries, hopefully he can stay healthy next season.
Cameron Cooper (1988) - Appears to have improved defensively, as his +/- rating improved.
Tommy Mannino (1987) - Mannino came in and produced right away. Could go back to OHL.
Ryan Peltoma (1988) - Good size, hopefully he can rebound from the freak accident that happened in Des Moines.
Defense Evaluation:
This defense should be in good position if all of these guys do come back. It could hurt if Mannino leaves, but I'm sure Littler would be able to find a capable replacement. Though Ensign, Cooper, and Peltoma aren't as offensive, they contribute the best way they can, and that's by keeping the puck from entering their zone. Combined, they were +18 on the season.
Forwards (7):
Sean Wiles (1987) - Big kid, doubled his goal output from last season.
Alex Hudson (1987) - Could be a top scorer in the league next year.
Michael Pilot (1987) - Bothered by injuries, should be ready for next season.
Jordan VanGilder (1988) - I'd expect a breakout year for this kid.
Jordan Willert (1987) - Big, strong kid. Started putting the puck in more often.
Patrick White (1989) - There is a possibility that he will stick around and go to Minnesota in 08.
David Brownschidle (1989) - David has the option of going to Brown for 07 or 08.
Forward Evaluation:
Hudson will lead this team in offense next season. Wiles and Willert improved in their goal scoring abilities and will look to become more potent threats with the puck. Pilot and VanGilder are due for some big numbers next season, and I wouldn't be surprised if both of them accomplish that. White and Brownschidle could opt to return to Kearney for another year of juniors, but with White, it all depends on whether or not a few former USHLers decide to turn pro or not.
Futures Evaluation:
Tri-City boasts some excellent talent in their futures pool. Guys like Brandon Martell, Troy Power, and Chris Hickey lead the way. Martell has all the makings to be one of the best defenseman in the league and Power is young, but has a ton of potential. A couple downsides is that first pick, Bryan Brutlag, appears to be headed to RPI for next fall, and Scooter Vaughan appears to be headed to Michigan next fall as well.

Cedar Rapids RoughRiders 2007-08 Preview
Cedar Rapids had a great year, only to be knocked out of the playoffs by Waterloo.
Key Departures:
Jacob Cepis-Leading point getter with 72.
Robin Bergman-One of the better rookies this year.
Rob Bordson-Excellent talent.
Scott Wietecha-Team leader.
Richard Bachman-Came up big in the playoffs.
Goalies (1):
Kent Patterson (1989) - Patterson is an excellent goalie, posted a 20-5 record.
Goalie Evaluation:
Patterson is a great goalie and having him in net solidifies that position. Coach Mark Carlson can now focus on offense. Patterson should have no trouble being a top goalie in the league next year.
Defense (2):
Matt Tomassoni (1989) - On the small side, didn't appear to be too offensive.
Scott Mathis (1988) - Good size, should be a defensive leader next season.
Defense Evaluation:
Tomassoni and Mathis combined for 11 points total. Everyone else on the blue line had at least 11 or more themselves. They will need to bring in a few guys who can step in and contribute right away. It's really tough for a team when returning only two guys on defense.
Forward (6):
Casey Wellman (1987) - Slow start, but finished very strong.
Ian Slater (1988) - Third year guy, should be a leader.
Mike Seidel (1988) - Excellent rookie campaign, has a shot to lead the team in points.
David Boehm (1989) - Has the potential to be a superstar at this level.
Tyler Thompson (1989) - Put up decent stats in limited playing time.
Tomi Stahlhammer (1988) - Has potential, but hasn't come close to living up to that yet.
Forward Evaluation:
Having a couple snipers up front in Seidel and Boehm will definitely be something to build on. Seidel and Boehm will lead this team offensively, while Wellman will have his fair share of offensive output as well. Slater will be steady and contribute as well, but Cedar Rapids needs some production out of Thompson and Stahlhammer come next season.
Futures Evaluation:
Cedar Rapids has a few gems in their futures pool. Leading the way is forward Greg Burke, who is currently playing for the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs of the EJHL. Other names that will likely see USHL ice next season include defenseman Chris Wideman, goaltender Brady Hjelle, and forward Dean Chelios.

Sioux City Musketeers 2007-08 Preview
The Musketeers are coming off a hard fought series with Tri-City, in which they eventually lost. Sioux City won't return many of their potent scorers, so they may have some work to do.
Key Departures:
Mike Beck-Defensive leader.
Phil DeSimone-USHL Player of the Year.

Max Pacioretty-USHL Rookie of the Year.
Jerry Kuhn-Team's #1 goalie.

Josh Robinson (1989) - Solid goalie, still pretty raw.
Goalie Evaluation:
Robinson is a solid goalie, but coach Siciliano will look to bring in a goalie who can push Josh. His numbers weren't too bad for a rookie, but if he wants to be the go to guy, he needs to put up a lot better numbers. He started his USHL career going 6-0, and would finish 7-2-2 with a shutout.
Defense (6):
Joe Sova (1988) - 3rd year guy, needs to step up his play.
Matt Crandell (1988) - Somewhat small, but very good. Hard shot from the point.
Tyler Pederson (1987) - Big kid, plays physical.
Danny Wurden (1989) - Young, but he developed quite well as the season went on.
Alex Stuart (1988) - Could be the team's QB on the powerplay.
Sean Coffey (1988) - Injuries have held him back, but he should be ready to go.
Defense Evaluation:
With guys like Stuart and Crandell leading the D, this team looks pretty good on the blue line come next season. Third year guys, Coffey and Sova, will definitely need to step it up and lead this team. Wurden could emerge as the team's best defenseman at the rate he is going. Pederson is a guy that you need to have, as he plays the physical role and hopefully he can help others learn that as well.
Forwards (8):
Eddie Olczyk (1989) - Solid player, needs to look for the open man more.
Travis Oleksuk (1989) - Struggled early, but made huge strides to end the season.
James Krusic (1988) - Good size, needs to finish.
Anthony Maiani (1989) - Should lead the team in points.
Donnie Hallmark (1988) - Physical player, could be a nice captain.
Spencer Heichman (1989) - Extremely small, but he improved a lot from last season.
Alex Tuckerman (1988) - Excellent stick handler, should be a top 3 forward.
Nathan Pageau (1989) - Plays bigger than he is, lots of potential.
Forward Evaluation:
Maiani and Hallmark, who will be third year vets, will be relied upon to lead this team. Oleksuk, Tuckerman, and Heichman could be a solid line combination next season with their experience and speed. If Pageau, Krusic, and Olczyk can emerge as top players, this offense could be deadly.
Futures Evaluation:
Sioux City features a couple top Minnesota players including goalie Ben Leis, defenseman Seth Helgason, and forward Jake Johnson. Helgason is a big kid and would be a nice addition to the team. The Musketeers also have a solid player by the name of Tom Serratore, who is the son of former Lancer coach Frank Serratore. Eric Rubino and Adam Kuhn could be wild cards for this team come next season.
Overall Evaluation: C+
Key Departures:
Mike Beck-Defensive leader.
Phil DeSimone-USHL Player of the Year.
Dustin Gazley-Near 30 goal scorer.
Blake Martin-Team leader and 20 goal scorer.
Max Pacioretty-USHL Rookie of the Year.
Jerry Kuhn-Team's #1 goalie.

Omaha Lancers 2007-08 Preview
Omaha is coming off a disappointing first round series loss to sixth seeded Des Moines. The Lancers were the West division champs, but were unable to solve Des Moines. Omaha will send a lot of kids off to college, so they won't have a whole lot of holdovers for next season.
Key Departures:
Mark Olver-Led team in points with 64.
Nick Petrecki-One of the better defenseman.
Chris Hepp-Team leader.
Jarmo Jokila-Excellent player, sniper.
Barry Almeida-Near point per game player.
Corey Toy-Great defenseman.
Goalies (1):
Drew Palmisano (1988) - Excellent goalie, should be atop the league next season.
Goalie Evaluation:
Palmisano is an outstanding goalie and should see his stats improve with a full season in Omaha. The Lancers will need to bring in a reliable backup, since they won't be able to keep Michal Valent.
Defense (3):
Keir Ross (1989) - Solid and reliable. Should lead defense.
Adam Comrie (1990) - Rumors say he may jump to the OHL.
Will O'Neill (1988) - Good size, might be a bit too streaky.
Defense Evaluation:
Their returning defense is really depleted. They lose guys like Petrecki, Hepp, and Toy that were all leaders on defense and were good at their jobs. The Lancers will hope Comrie stays, as he is an excellent talent and could be a top defenseman next season. Ross and O'Neill got some experience and should be ready to go next season.
Forwards (8):
Matt Thurber (1989) - Small and feisty. Leader material.
Brett Bruneteau (1989) - Could end up going to North Dakota next fall.
Justin Johnson (1988) - Not too productive in his short stint, but was a top player in Wisconsin.
Ben Arnt (1989) - I have a feeling this kid is going to be a stud next season.
Nick Larson (1989) - Could head to Minnesota next fall.
Justin Kirchevel (1989) - Most talented kid in South Dakota.
Joe Beaudette (1988) - Has excellent skill and could be a top forward.
Andrew Conboy (1988) - Breakout year last year, should be leader.
Forward Evaluation:
They return a good core in Thurber, Bruneteau, and Conboy. The biggest question marks right now are whether or not Larson and Bruneteau will be around come next fall, or if their college will come calling. Omaha has a lot of young talent up front, led by Larson and Beaudette. Johnson and Arnt could be in for big years.
Futures Evaluation:
They have some excellent Minnesota talent, including Danny Kristo, Ben Hanowski, Joey Gleason, and Drew Olson. Kristo is currently playing with the NTDP and will most likely be there next season as well. Omaha's first pick, David Warsofsky, appears to be headed to the NTDP as well. Matt White should be able to come in right away and produce.

Ohio Junior Blue Jackets 2007-08 Preview
Ohio didn't have the best of seasons, but they were able to round up some pretty decent talent. They didn't have one 86 born player on their roster at season's end, so all of those kids gained some valuable playing time at this level. They will return most of their roster, including goalie Corson Cramer.
Key Departures:
Zac MacVoy-13 points with the Jackets and led them to their first road win.
Chris Reed-25 points, one of their better defenseman.
Dennis Urban-Leader on defense.
Goalies (2):
Corson Cramer (1988) - Cramer was released by Texas (NAHL) and quickly grabbed by Ohio. He turned out to be a quality starter for them.
Brandon Czarnecki (1990) - Young. Got some games in to get some experience. Could be decent.
Goalie Evaluation:
Cramer should be one of the better goalies in the league next season. Czarnecki is a capable backup, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if they brought in a more established goalie to help push Cramer. Regardless, they have a good duo in net to help them win some games.
Defense (5):
Danny Markowitz (1988) - Acquired from Tri-City, may head to college this fall.
Nolan Ryan (1988) - Big kid with lots of promise.
Patrick Goebel (1987) - Extremely short. Started to produce towards the end of the year.
John Ryder (1989) - I've always thought he was an excellent talent and he should get looks from a few colleges.
Ryan Hill (1988) - Decent size, but stuck with a horrible +/- rating (-29).
Defense Evaluation:
The defense looks to be pretty solid. With guys like Goebel, Ryder, and Ryan having a year of USHL experience under their belts, they should be able to be better prepared and able to produce right out of the gate. Hill is a defensive minded player with size, so he had all the makings to be very good in this league. Markowitz may still go off to Dartmouth this fall, but it's not certain whether he will stay or go at this point.
Forwards (13):
Alexei Dostoinov (1989) - Dostoinov came over from Sioux Falls and put together a solid 18 games in Ohio.
Ben Dykstra (1989) - Don't know too much about him.
Daniel Barczuk (1988) - Will be 3rd year guy, will be relied on for offense and leadership.
Danny Hobbs (1989) - Rated by NHL CSB, so he must be good.
Sean McCauley (1987) - Good talent, but just wasn't able to put up a whole lot of points.
Derek Roehl (1988) - Had a solid year and should improve on that next season.
Clark MacLean (1987) - Not a great rookie campaign, should increase his numbers to about 20 points.
Eric Rex (1987) - Same boat as McCauley.
Tim Hall (1990) - One of the biggest surprises in my eyes. Led the team in scoring as a 16 year old rookie.
Charles Brockett (1988) - Should build on a solid rookie season.
Matt Bourdeau (1989) - Big kid, needs to score some more.
Andy Taranto (1988) - Good size, but was bothered by injuries.
Justin Cseter (1988) - 4th year guy, will need to produce offensively.
Forward Evaluation:
Barczuk and Cseter will be relied on for leadership next fall. They will also need to score and so will guys like McCauley, Rex, and Roehl. Hall will need to avoid a "sophomore slump" but I don't think that will be too likely, and would count on him leading the team in points again. A healthy Taranto and a scoring Bourdeau could make this team really scary.
Futures Outlook:
Tommy Cross and Andrew Glass lead this group. These two are outstanding players and it'd be beneficial not only to the Jackets, but to the league as a whole to have this talent in the league. Ohio's first pick, Jimmy Hayes, reportedly will not play in the USHL and C.J. Severyn has a scholarship for next fall.

Lincoln Stars 2007-08 Preview
Lincoln is coming off a tough series against Sioux Falls, in which they were swept. They had a very solid team, but the defense and goaltending just wasn't there come playoff time. Steve Johnson recently signed a contract extension, so he should be set and ready for next season. Let's take a look at what he will be working with.
Key Departures:
Colby Cohen-60 points.
Jared Brown-71 points.
Carter Camper-71 points.
Stephen Schultz-30 goal scorer.
Dan Lawson-One of the best defenseman in the league.
Goalies (2):
Bryce Christianson (1987) - Bryce was acquired from Tri-City prior to the trade deadline and he performed well.
Bryan Hogan (1988) - Right now, it's just a possibility that Hogan could return.
Goalie Evaluation:
Christianson came over and quickly found relied upon in many situations. Hogan's numbers fell quite a bit after a stellar rookie campaign. Christianson is an excellent goalie who Steve Johnson can build around and Hogan is the same type of player. But whether Hogan stays or not is the question. If he stays, Lincoln has one of the better goalie duos in the league, but if he leaves, they still have a viable option in Christianson without a guarantee of a solid backup.
Defense (4):
David Brack (1987) - Brack wasn't all that productive, but he found himself playing forward often.
Matt Bartkowski (1988) - Bartkowski currently has a scholarship for 2008, but that could change to next fall.
Ross Henry (1990) - One of Lincoln's better defenders, and quite young.
Ryan Lowery (1988) - Lowery was supposed to be headed to CC this fall, but will instead play another year of juniors.
Kyle Follmer (1987) - Another successful season in the USHL. Will be 3rd year vet.
Defense Evaluation:
Lincoln could return a good core of defense, but will have to hope Bartkowski stays another year. Getting Lowery back will be a huge boost and Henry should continue to be one of the better defenders in the league. Brack and Follmer may or may not be back due to age.
Forwards (10):
Rick Carden (1988) - Carden had a decent rookie year and should build on that.
Eric Lake (1988) - Lake was hampered by injuries, but should be healthy for 08.
Patrick Johnson (1989) - Johnson looks like he will be headed to college in 09. One of the better rookies in the league.
Joe Miller (1987) - Not much production in Sioux Falls, but had an excellent time with Lincoln.
Jason Gregoire (1989) - Chance he could return, but it looks like he will be at DU in the fall.
Brandon Bollig (1987) - Nearly doubled his 05-06 point output.
Danny Baco (1988) - Slowly maturing.
Justin Crew (1989) - 4 points in 10 games isn't too shabby.
Mike Hull (1988) - Hull will be a 3rd year vet and could lead this team.
Travis Erstad (1988) - Loads of offensive potential. Could lead team in scoring.
Forward Evaluation:
Lincoln could easily boast the best returning group. Johnson and Erstad are young, but will be offensive forces next fall. If Gregoire does indeed stay another year, he should see significant ice time and could find himself atop the league in scoring. Lincoln will have quite a few players who could be great leaders in Bollig, Baco, and Hull. These three will be 3rd year vets and know what it takes to win at this level.
Futures Evaluation:
Lincoln boasts talented kids such as Tyler Kieffer, Jared Festler, and David Toews. Yes, Toews is the younger brother of North Dakota star Jonathan Toews. Kieffer nearly made the Cedar Rapids roster last summer, but opted to play his high school hockey. Kyle St. Denis is another star in the making. He averaged over a point per game in the BCHL as a 16 year old rookie.

Green Bay Gamblers 2007-08 Preview
Today, I will be looking at the potential returners for the Gamblers. Green Bay is coming off a disappointing season, and that could be enough to put head coach Mark Mazzoleni on the hot seat.
Key Departures:
Sergio Somma-51 points.
Derrick LaPoint-49 points.
Adam Avramenko-Team's #1 goaltender.
Steve Silva-Led team in points with 59.
Mike Sislo-20 goal scorer.
Goalies (1):
Nicholas Graves (1988) - Graves beat out Max Strang for the backup role on this year's team. Played in a limited amount of games, but showed some promise.
Goalie Evaluation:
Graves didn't do too bad in his rookie season, but if the Gamblers want to compete next season, they will need someone who can step up and lead this team.
Defense (4):
John Kearns (1987) - Kearns had left Army to come back to the USHL. He should be the leader of the Gambler defense.
Tyler Jundt (1988) - Good size. Could have a solid season.
Ryan Little (1988) - Will be 3rd year vet. Another leader on the blue line for Green Bay.
Baylor Dieter (1988) - Big kid that plays his position well.
Defense Evaluation:
Green Bay returns a solid core of defense for next season. Little and Kearns will have to lead them and Dieter will be a force to be reckoned with. Jundt is the wildcard here. He could help lead the defense, or he could just be another guy back there for the Gamblers.
Forwards (8):
Ryan Santana (1988) - Santana had a slow rookie season, but should post respectable numbers next season.
C.J. Lee (1989) - Lee was added mid-season and by the end of the year he was scoring regularly. Should be an offensive leader.
Andy Dittus (1987) - Not very many points for a forward.
Anthony Hayes (1989) - Very young. Was given ample ice time to develop.
Derek Kohles (1988) - Bothered by injuries most of the season. Hard to gauge.
Garrett Grimstad (1988) - Recorded 0 points in 10 games, but was an offensive force in HS.
Taylor McReynolds (1987) - Crowd favorite. Enforcer and an excellent penalty killer.
Nick Tabisz (1987) - Third year vet, should be an offensive leader.
Forward Evaluation:
The Gambler offense looks like it may lack a potent scoring threat. Tabisz recorded the most goals of the potential returners with 11. He will be heavily relied on. Green Bay will also need some leadership from McReynolds. He had the making to be an excellent captain. If Santana, Dittus, Hayes, and Grimstad and produce, their offense won't be in as bad of shape.
Futures Evaluation:
Green Bay also boasts some excellent 90 born prospects from their futures list. Leading that list is Minnesota recruit, Jacob Youso. Youso should wear the red and gold next fall and could be an early candidate for ROY. Green Bay also has legitimate prospects in Max Cook and Garret Beckwith.
Overall Grade: C-

Chicago Steel 2007-08 Preview
Chicago posted the worst record in the league, but were the only bottom seed in the East to avoid the sweep. Chicago will bring back quite a bit of talent next season, and they have some quality players in their futures pool to choose from as well. Let's take a look at the potential returners for the Steel:
Key Departures:
Andy Miele-42 points with Chicago.
Sean Dolan-22 goals and 40 points.
Matt Godlewski-Team leader, plus 16 points.
Luka Vidmar-Emerged as one of the most reliable players on team.
Goalies (3):
Pat McGann (1987) - Could be a 3rd year veteran in net for the Steel.
Rob Madore (1988) - Excellent rookie campaign, though the numbers did not show it.
Nick Pisellini (1990) - Very young, but has the potential to be very good.
Goalie Evaluation:
Chicago should be pretty set at goal with Madore being their go to guy. McGann should be a serviceable backup as well. With Pisellini in the mix, I wouldn't be surprised if McGann would get traded, since he would be an overage player next season.
Defense (4):
Mike Dalhuisen (1989) - Big kid that won't shy away from contact or a fight. Has potential to be a solid defenseman.
Tim Buttery (1987) - One of the more productive Steel blueliners last season, Buttery should be in for a solid season.
Josh Bemis (1989) - This kid has a lot of promise, and should get more ice time.
Mike Walsh (1989) - Made some excellent strides towards the end of the season, should have a solid year.
Defense Evaluation:
Bemis has the most potential out of the bunch, but it take a little more time before he shows that. Buttery and Walsh will have to pick up the slack and lead the defense if Chicago wants to compete next season.
Forwards (10):
Mike DiPuma (1990) - Didn't play much, but has decent size.
James Knelman (1988) - One of the top players on the Holy Angels team. Should see a bigger role next season.
Tyler Murovich (1989) - Murovich has the potential to be a star in this league. He could easily be a top 15 scorer next season.
Richard Manley (1989) - Manley left the NTDP to come to Chicago, and had a pretty productive time.
Simon Olsson (1989) - Small, but feisty. Could find himself near the top of the league in PIM.
Dan Ryan (1987) - Third year veteran will have to lead his teammates.
Corey Chakeen (1989) - Had a decent rookie season, but should be able to get to the 35 point plateau next season.
Dan Durham (1989) - Once highly regarded, Durham must now find a way to prove his worth.
Dan Otto (1988) - Hampered by injuries for a good portion of the year, Otto will look to break out in his sophomore season.
Drew LeBlanc (1989) - Drew should be a top talent in the league next season. He will lead the Steel in scoring.
Forward Evaluation:
Good group of forwards coming back. They are young, but they all have a ton of potential. If all these players can play up to their potential, the Steel look like they could be a dangerous team next season. They will be led offensively by Murovich and LeBlanc. Manley could also be in for a big year. Coach Steve Poapst should have an easier time next season with this group.
Futures Evaluation:
Chicago has three futures players who can make an immediate impact next fall. Reid Ellingson (goalie), Trevor Nill (forward), and Max Nicastro (defense) could help the Steel next season. Chicago looks pretty stacked at goal with Madore there and Ellingson waiting for his shot.
