Futures Draft Update

2007 USHL Futures Draft

September 20, 2007

Grand Forks, ND: The United States Hockey League will hold its annual Futures Draft on Wednesday evening, October 3rd. Fans are encouraged to follow the results of the draft live on the USHL Draft website (www.ushldraft.com). The draft is conducted to supplement each team's affiliated player list and bring the total of affiliated players for each team to twelve.

Fargo, who will begin play in the fall of 2008, will have the first selection in the draft, followed by Sioux City, Ohio, Omaha, Waterloo, Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Green Bay, Sioux Falls, Lincoln, Tri-City and Indiana. The order of the draft will flip for each round, with Indiana picking first in the 2nd Round and Fargo last.

Draft order would appear as:

Round One:
1. Fargo Whatevers
2. Chicago Steel
3. Sioux City Musketeers
4. Ohio Jr. Blue Jackets
5. Omaha Lancers
6. Waterloo Black Hawks
7. Des Moines Buccaneers
8. Cedar Rapids RoughRiders
9. Green Bay Gamblers
10. Sioux Falls Stampede
11. Lincoln Stars
12. Tri-City Storm
13. Indiana Ice

Round Two:
14. Indiana Ice
15. Tri-City Storm
16. Lincoln Stars
17. Sioux Falls Stampede
18. Green Bay Gamblers
19. Cedar Rapids RoughRiders
20. Des Moines Buccaneers
21. Waterloo Black Hawks
22. Omaha Lancers
23. Ohio Jr. Blue Jackets
24. Sioux City Musketeers
25. Chicago Steel
26. Fargo Whatevers

Oh, I just noticed there is no Chicago. Perhaps it is a typo and they forgot it, or it's a sign of the Steel's future. You be the judge.

EDIT: Chicago is now listed and have the 2nd pick.

About time someone puts that fucking franchise out of its misery. The incompetence has been stunning.

Why does the USHL have two drafts?

1) I emailed the league. It's a typo.

2)Because they can? OK, the second is for players who won't play this year because they are too young. The first draft is more like the NFL draft - come in an play. The second is like the baseball draft - see you in a few years.

It's a typo...but still isn't fixed as of 6:00 p.m.

Hmmm

Time will tell.

I guess it's up there now...but it sure seems weird they'd even "accidentally" leave it out when first published.

I know this draft will focus on 91s, but are there any rules that say 91s have to be taken first? I heard 91s must be taken in first four rounds then 90s are game. Also, since the "Whatevers" are an expansion team will they be allowed to pick older players?
