Slater Commits

Cedar Rapids' Ian Slater has committed to Western Michigan for 2008.

Slater, 19, is approaching his third season in Cedar Rapids. Last year the Satellite Beach, Florida, native scored 15 goals and totaled 33 points in 59 games while posting a plus/minus rating of +15- tied for second best on the team- and piling up 115 penalty minutes. No returning Rider scored more goals than Slater last season. In 2005-06- his first United States Hockey League season- Slater scored five goals and notched seven points in forty games.
Slater will be a third year veteran. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he's wearing the C this year in Cedar Rapids. He plays a physical game, but he showed this past season he can put points on the board.

Couple of NHL notes to post about quickly.

Former Buccaneer, Scott Clemmensen, has signed a 1 year deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Thomas Vanek, former Stampede player, has signed a 7 year offer sheet with the Edmonton Oilers. The offer is worth $50 million. The Sabres have since matched the offer and Vanek will remain in Buffalo.

SARCASM ALERT

as for vanek, yeah, going the USHL really hurt his earning capacity. He might not be able to get by on the paltry salary - and I'm sure that's what Edmonton said when they made the offer. "Gee, Thomas, we're offering you $50 million but if you had played in the OHL years ago we might have made it $55."

yikes.

NCAA vs OHL??

someone with spare time should calculate the average salary of NCAA route NHL'ers v. WHL route NHL'ers. It won't be sarcastic, but should get my point across.

quote "someone with spare time should calculate the average salary of NCAA route NHL'ers v. WHL route NHL'ers"

edit "someone with spare time should calculate the average salary of NCAA route v. WHL route when hockey doesn't work out after they're 20-22 years old."

At least if you go NCAA you can do something with your sports marketing degree instead of bagging groceries at Tim Horton's and wondering where it all went wrong.

Come on Section A, you should have known this:
Tim Hortons is a coffee-and-doughnut fast food restaurant chain largely based in Canada.

my bad, for some reason I thought it was a grocery chain...how about safeway?

there ya go.. The only reason I know that Tim Hortons is a donut shop is because Kevin Smith talks about it on one of his Q&A DVD's

Here we go, Kevin Lowe (Mr: hockey canada is superior to anything else) had his chance to sign a multitude of former chl players. But when it came down to that thing of, " building a winner"; he chooses a USHL-NCAA product.
hmmm hmmm hmmm...
