News and Notes

A couple of college commitments to talk about.

First, Cedar Rapids' Dan Dries has committed to University of New Hampshire. Dries really started to play well after his trade from Ohio to Cedar Rapids. Since the trade, Dries has recorded 14 points in 21 games for the Riders. If he can continue his play like this at the next level, the Wildcats are getting themselves an excellent player. It appears he will be there in 2007.

Second, Sioux Falls' Stu Bickel has committed to University of Minnesota for next fall. Bickel is currently scheduled to be the team's 8th defensemen, barring any early departures from Alex Goligoski or Erik Johnson. Bickel is a big defenseman, and has had a successful season after making the switch back to the blue line. He played 30 games in Green Bay as a forward without recording a point.

Hockey's Future interviews with Nate Gerbe (River City), Justin Abdelkader (Cedar Rapids), and Chris VandeVelde (Lincoln.)

Mike Hastings (Omaha), Mark Carlson (Cedar Rapids), and Bliss Littler (Tri-City) will represent the USHL at the Las Vegas Showcase this summer.
