News and Notes

Today, the USHL features John Ramage and Jordan Mayer.

Ramage:
"I chose to play midget major because I think it will help my development, give me a chance to improve a lot more". A fair statement from a mature young hockey player. He is a young man who studies the game, an influence you can bet comes from his dad, a former NHL great. When you talk to Rob Ramage, who is as friendly and honest as they come, Rob will tell you that players these days need to watch more hockey, watch how the pro's do it, study the game. His son John, has the same outlook. This 6'1, 180lbs defenseman, agrees. "I think my strengths are that I have knowledge of the game. I have been around it my whole life, and watching and learning helps your over all game".

Mayer:
Does Jordan have NCAA college in his plans? At the moment he is unsure, and is keeping his options open. "I have been to Clarkson to watch, checked it out, and was impressed with the fast pace, its a good league, very competitive. I may go and see a few more games, I need to educate myself on all the options available to me".

USHL also features Northern Michigan University.

Gamblers raise more than $4100 for St. Vincent Hospital Center.

Ice "Pack the House" for United Way. Pack the House night will be Saturday February 3rd vs Green Bay.

USHL alumni Show Well during NHL All-Star Game.

"The USHL is proud of these four young men. They represented themselves and their organizations very well," said USHL President Gino Gasparini. "And they may not know it, but they were also representing us and they did a fantastic job."

WCF Courier has an excellent article about the quick rise of the USHL.

"I've been following this league for 20 years and the quality of players coming out of this junior league each year is just getting better and better," said Colorado Avalanche scout Gary Harker. "There are three reasons for it. One is the coaching and the quality coaches in the league like P.K. O'Handley, Mike Hastings, Steve Johnson, David Siciliano ... all of them. These guys have been around the league for a long time and know junior hockey.
