Hunter Bishop Update

The Vernon Vipers announced today that Hunter Bishop would be returning to the team following his departure from the University of North Dakota. Bad news for Lincoln fans, but good news for the rest of the league.

(Vernon)—The Vernon Vipers are pleased to announce the return of 19 year old Hunter Bishop from the University of North Dakota. Bishop had recorded 1 assist while playing in just 4 games for UND. The product of Fairbanks Alaska was third on the Vipers in points last season with 54 and second in goals with 25.

General Manager Troy Mick is excited about the return of the quick skating forward. “Hunter was a big part of our team last year and to have him coming back is a very pleasant surprise. We are looking for him to add that scoring touch and play making ability that he is known for.”

I was actually anxious to see what Bishop would be able to do in the USHL a second time. Good luck to Hunter.

Why would he pice the BCHL over the USHL?

The USHL is not the only good league out there. Good for Hunter to snub the USHL. They spit on him a few years back. The league is not the end all be all for players.

THEY? Who's THEY? The entire league? I kinda doubt that. Please be more specific.

I was told he didn't get enough playing time when he played for Cedar Rapids.

He played 50/60 regular season games but 1/11 in the playoffs.

Bishop dressed for 50/60 regular season games in Cedar Rapids. Says nothing to the amount of ice time he received.

he was also the 2nd youngest on the team, behind Kevin Wehrs, so that could translate into shorter shifts when you're playing behind all the older guys.

Yes, less shifts should be expected as a rookie, especially on a strong team. Seems the same should no have been a surprise at UND nor a reason to quit.

Billy Blase had commented a while ago that the BCHL could give the USHL a run for its money ( at least).

The BCHL is on par with the USHL. The Steel and Jr BJ's would lose to some EJHL teams this year.

The Steel and Jr BJ's would lose to most MN high school teams!

So are you saying the BCHL is below MN hockey?

NO, The Bchl(most),Ajhl (top),Sjhl(top),Opjhl(top),Nahl(top) and Ushl(most) are for the most part on par with each other.

UND probably informed Lincoln's coach that Bishop was leaving so they could add him to their roster. Bishop's priority was to return to Vernon with the USHL as a backup option. He loved it at Vernon and the fans loved him. Seems he'd rather go to junior college just so he can play in Vernon next year than to sit out a year at another D1 college (assuming he completes an accredited associates degree). He'll have three years of D1 eligibility left assuming he gets a NLI release from UND. Since he supposedly left on good terms with the UND coaches he'll likely get the NLI release.

At least he is being smart about it, unlike others who feel that the OHL is the only answer. If the situation was not right for him, he can reassess his options and have the opportunity to embark on getting a degree somewhere.

By keeping the dream of a scholarship alive, he has the chance to really thank himself later, unlike some of these CHL guys who are scratching their heads years later while towing the company line at a burger joint wondering what it would be like having an education.

Wow, that's great, your a smart one.

first Hunter's a WHL'er.
seacond don't tell me every hockey player in the NCAA finishes his schooling.
third the CHL gives out alot of money for school.
Burger joint, alot of former CHL players own them AH.

Do you need a job?

Can you please clarify for me what you meant by Hunter being a WHLer when he is in the BCHL.

Yes, the CHL does give out money, but it is vastly different from a scholarship from a US school. There is always a Brody Todd story out there from time to time that you here about.
