Charlie Skjodt Resigns

Indiana head coach, Charlie Skjodt, has resigned as head coach of the Indiana Ice. I read a replacement is to be announced later today. Perhaps a Regg Simon would work here.

"I truly enjoyed every minute of my experience with the Indiana Ice during our Final Four run last year and again with the season we had this year," said Skjodt. "This was a very tough decision based on other business and family obligations, but I feel strongly that the team is in very good hands with the incoming coach and his staff. We are now excited and focused for the draft, training camp and preparing for another great year of hockey. In closing, I wanted to thank the loyal fans and corporate community for their support this year and look forward to seeing everyone at the rink this season."

Regg was on his way to Indy last night.

No, that is not good news.

I am not sure about Regg in Indiana? I was hearing something else. We shall soon see. With his record last year, it will not be exciting news.

Regg will be the head coach of Indy next year. That is confirmed.

Well if Ryan's rumor proves true then Indy will go down the ranks.

What is this "With his record last year, it will not be exciting news" crap? What was it, one or two years ago that he coached the Bucs to the Clark Cup title?

People who live in the "What have you done for me lately?" mode are ridiculous.

OMG, are we going to be bottom feeders? I know he has a cup under his belt but that was a while ago and he just tanked the buc's this past season.

John,

Reggie will need to step up. You cant keep living in his past, past, past. Next year he will be put to the test here to perform or get out.

This was not a surprise by Charlie. We knew it was coming. Good luck to him and his future.

Ever stop to think that maybe the guy learned some valuable lessons from last season? Ever consider that he lost a key player 2 games into the season, and another for the first half, plus Rodwell?

You people need to lighten up. Regg will be fine in Indy, he'll do a good job.

Ha Ha Ha. The Muskies did better.

I sure hope this will not cause another pissing contest where bash blogs will come in to play like THIS blog is getting famous for.

I honestly cannot understand why SOME individuals need to stir the pot and POST cheap shots against others. Grow up and be nice!

Best of luck to the Ice. They'll need it!! Ideally, two to three years after bringing in a new coach is the time to judge his skills as a recruiter and coach. Last year we Bucs fans found out what duds we had in Simon and his staff. Simon couldn't even hang in there until the season ended. He did what he thought was best for Simon and bailed on the team that he had recruited and coached to a mere 10 wins. And we will suffer through at least another season because he has left us with 2 or 3 players that can compete as this level. Speak up Ice fans before it's too late. Don't make the same mistake that the Muskies made. The Storm fans blocked a bad jersey choice. You can block a bad coaching choice.

Some of you guys just dont get it. Reggie will do well. Clark cup 3 years ago, one goal from going back to the finals the year after, and the last season which was a tough one - he lost over 150 man games due to unjury and his 1st roud pick 2 weeks in! Geez, guys like Dave Siciliano and Pk Ohandley have even had rough years in the league...so relax, Reggie will win.

Simon got out of DM because he saw the writing on the on the wall with the new ownership change in DM. I am tired of people saying that he bailed on the team. Indy has a great coach coming to town.

Hey I think it was a good hire you are bring in a guy that has experience in the league with one day before the draft. He did just wina title for them not to long ago and they were a compitive all season except last. You can't hound on a guy for one bad season.
Look at the Gamblers lol

Simon learn from his mistakes? I guess we will find out pretty quick.

I am very unhappy with this news. I hope he can do better in his draft this year and actually hold on to good players and not blow them off.

Well I can read the writing on our Indy wall and it says, Sh*t!

He has made some wierd trades and now I wonder what he will do to our guys? I am not cool with this.

What is next?

Anon @ 3:29: You can't hound on a guy for one bad season.

Do you want to bet on that? This is done by people all the time, either deal with it or go away!

I read my wall and it said: Caution: Melting Ice Alert!

Honestly, what a shock. And yes, I also live in the present and not the past. Lets see what the draft will bring this way.

Is this official?

Anonymous said...

I did not see this coming.

We lost two good coaches this year.

Regg Simon is a complete surprise.

It may prove to be a long year.

Most of all, he better not mess with the players and screw things up for us.

We do not want leftovers!

I don't think some of you really know anything about hockey or coaching. If these organizations hire coaches that they feel will do a great job and bring a championship to them, why would they bring them in. They hire them to do so, not to please fans that don't know jack about hockey or coaching.

Indy has had a different head coach each season in the league. For those that think Mr. Simon will have anything to do with the draft are crazy. This has always been Paul Skjodt's ship to sink.

No wall writing writers allowed. This is Indy not Sux City....... We behave with class!!!!!

Anonymous said...

There is alot of coaches moving in and out of late?

I am a newer Ice fan and only know of Regg from the bucaneers last year and from that it was a pretty bad season.

Anonymous said...

awhile back the muskies fans were complaining about their new coach and i laughed. now the shoe is on our foot and it hurts. i guess what goes around comes around.
last time i laugh at some other team.

Anonymous said...

Yeah maybe we do not know how to coach a team BUT we pay the bucks to see the games so we ALL should be entitled to OUR own opinions.

Regg Simon is washed up.

Anonymous said...

washed up after 3 years of coaching and a clark cup and a semifinal birth?...get a clue buddy. One season doesnt define a coach. As I recall, Dave siciliano, P.K.Ohandley, Bliss Littler and more big time coaches have missed playoffs before. If your going to judge, wait till this time next year!

Anonymous said...

Bring back Jack Bowkus. He was a great coach!!

Anonymous said...

Not sad to see Skjodt resigning, but a firing would have been more appropriate, but then again if you're firing yourself I guess it is called a resignation. After the way he handled the roster during playoffs he should be taught a lesson.

Anonymous said...

Simon is not the answer to Charlie's resignation.

Anonymous said...

Reggie looks rusty!

Anonymous said...

Oh yeah I forgot...Indy is the new mecca for hockey!

Fact of life, we are the best!

Well I guess we were wrong....Jeff Blashill is the new coach of Indy!

Anonymous said...

"Indy has had a different head coach each season in the league. For those that think Mr. Simon will have anything to do with the draft are crazy. This has always been Paul Skjodt's ship to sink."

Whoever wrote that understands Indy hockey. Coaches come, coaches go, and it really doesn't matter how talented they are in the end.

Anonymous said...

I would say that is accurate considering the year-end escapade where they made such an ethical decision.

Anonymous said...

Whatever, just glad we have Jeff now! Get over it and lets move it on!

Anonymous said...

Can't believe the Ice did not pick Ken McRae to be their Head Coach. First round pick in the NHL, 2 time Coach of the Year in the Central Hockey League. The kids need someone to teach them how the pros play the game. I guess the Skjodt's wanted someone that they can control and dangle on a string like a little puppet!!

FYI - SImon lands with NAHL's St. Louis Bandits.
