Jail buddies Squires and Syner were back in the lineup for the Ice. Class act that Indiana organization is. Lose the first game, reinstate the criminals. Win at all costs, who cares what others think. I heard Ogie Ogelthorpe is available, Skjodt.

You stay classy, Indianapolis.

What others think? I am sure they care about what some losers think in some middle of no-where town! Tell me how many points did squires and Syner even have? 0? hmmmmm

That sends a great message about dicipline and taking responsibility for your actions to current and future USHL players, their on ice performance on Saturday meaning nothing. They should have been sent home, period.

Have the Ice issued any kind of an official statement since this whole fiasco started weeks ago? Other than the one that said Squires and Syner were "suspended indefinitely." Nothing since then, and then all of a sudden both players are back on the ice. When you don't officially address a situation like this, automatically there is a perception of impropriety...and rightly so.

It boggles my mind that the Ice management could be so cavalier about this. Black eye for the USHL for sure. Check out the Ice message board, even their own fans think this situation is beyond repair.

Very sad.

Indy Ice organization of the year! What a JOKE. Wonder if they would have won this award if it were handed out and voted on today. NOT.

Can't want to see the MUGSHOTS in the stands tomorrow not.

Nice picture mr squires and mr syner.

Ya on the Ice message board their fans are ticked off at not hearing any official statement from the team. They have a real class act there in Indy.

Why does it matter if they had any points or not, they still played and had an effect on the game.... Stupid statement.

Guess you're the STUPID one, and heck you're probably the one living in Hickville. Doesn't matter if the had 0 or 20 points - the point is they broke the law and they shouldn't be playing - PERIOD.

My son plays in the USHL and I am disgusted that these boys were allowed to suit up and play...does not send a good message to all the other athletes that are busting their tails to do the right things in their lives. USHL should have gotten involved and made these boys go home.

I guess a felony is the same as underage drinking now in the USHL a few years ago the USHL handed out 2-3 game suspensions for drinking at the All-Star game.

Anonymous said...

underage drinking.......against the law

stealing..............against the law...if they got a 3 game suspension for drinking...then quit complaining about these two, they served a 3 game suspension for what they did. i think its hilarious how people from other towns have so much time on their hands to care about this topic so much...it really is funny.

I would like to point out to everyone that these two boys have not yet been convicted of any crime. They have not gone to trial. The only conviction that has been handed down for these two is by the media. I believe our system in America is innocent until proven guilty. In the "real world" what do you suppose would happen??? Would these two have lost scholarship or grant money for college? Would they have lost their jobs before any conviction was handed down. Probably not. Their faces would never have been in the newspaper and their schools and employers would probably have never found out. I wonder if these boys would even have been arrested had they not been "Ice players".
And have we forgotten that the owners of the USHL teams are running a business. If it were your millions of dollars on the line, what would you do? This is not youth hockey anymore, gentlemen. Just ask those boys that were cut just prior to the deadline. This is a cut throat business that has little concern for the feelings of the kids.... it's about winning and trying to pay the bills. That is the reality of the USHL. How many coaches have lost their jobs because they haven't "parented" their players well. I think most of them lose their jobs because they DON'T WIN!!!
Oh, and how many of you berate and condemn the NFL, NHL and NBA because a couple of players get arrested. There even older and REALLY should know better!!!! But somehow we just look the other way at "those players" and we continue to support those teams.

is underage drinking a felony in Indiana? I'm not sure.

Is shoplifting a felony in Indiana - YES.

Enough stayed.

Now go to sleep Junior..

And by the way little man, I'm not from a little city. I'm from Chicago.

1 person shoplifting $500+ is a felony in Indiana. Individually, they took less than $500 each, so it's technically a misdemeanor.

Shoplifting FELONY or MISDEMEANOR

SEE THE LAST PARAGRAPH CONCERNING INDIANA!

United States
In most states in the United States, shoplifting is a misdemeanor crime of petty larceny when specifically committed against a retail establishment by a patron. Some states do not distinguish between shoplifting and other forms of petty larceny, although a judge may consider the context of any crime in sentencing.

In some jurisdictions within the United States, certain egregious instances of shoplifting involving large dollar amounts of merchandise and/or a high degree of criminal sophistication may be prosecuted and punished as burglary or otherwise as a felony. The dollar amount to constitute felony shoplifting can range from being quite low such as $100 in Vermont, to quite high such as $2,500 in Wisconsin. In some states a high dollar amount can constitute a higher felony, a prime example being Arizona where a shoplifting incident greater than $2,000 constitutes a class five felony.

Indiana is the only state in the country where an act of shoplifting is considered a felony regardless of dollar value.

Wow! Some good questions. How about these for some anwers?

1. Their faces would never have been in the newspaper and their schools and employers would probably have never found out. I wonder if these boys would even have been arrested had they not been "Ice players". A: Do you honestly think they were arrested because they were Ice players? No no no! They were arrested because they comitted a crime (regardless of how severe you think it was). Also, both are +18, making them adults. Photo's of adults comitting crimes are almost always posted.

2. And have we forgotten that the owners of the USHL teams are running a business. If it were your millions of dollars on the line, what would you do? A: You are correct, it is a business. How would I have handled the situation? Not too sure what legal ramifications allow/disallow these boys to play, but I would have made some sort of statement. I certainly would want my ticket holders to keep coming so as I can make a buck. The Ice have done NOTHING for two weeks now.

3. Oh, and how many of you berate and condemn the NFL, NHL and NBA because a couple of players get arrested. There even older and REALLY should know better!!!! But somehow we just look the other way at "those players" and we continue to support those teams.
A: Good statement and question. Personally, I do "berate" and "condemn" professional franchises that do NOTHING with regard to their troubled players/staff. Ask the Indiana Pacers how they feel about being "dead last" in NBA attendance because they allowed the inmates to run the asylumn. I think the fans clearly aren't "continuing to support the team." The same will happen in this instant as well. Hoackey has no significant foothold in Indy anyhow. This will just serve to quicken the sport's exit from the city. It's time to quit bashing the players and start demanding the Ice organization formally address the situation and to answer why they allowed the two to play.

Maybe these boys are on the team because their teammates want them there, because they support each other no matter what. Maybe the Ice's hands are tied as to what they can and can't say. Maybe the player's lawyers have a stranglehold on the administration. Or maybe they are doing what they think is best for the rest of the team. Maybe it is THE TEAM'S BUSINESS and no one elses...... I am quite sure that they cleared all of this with the USHL.
I would bet that most of the revenue that supports these teams comes from sponsorships, not the entry fees of the fans.
I also wonder if you are wrong about the team losing fans because of this. Are you sure they won't gain some if they go on to win??? People like winners and are willing to forgive indiscretions to be with a winning team.... hmmmm.... bad publicity works for the movie stars.

CAN WE PLEASE STOP POSTING AND DISCUSSING THE ICE ISSUE....
IF OTHER TEAM'S PLAYERS ARE POSTING ON THIS, THEN YOU CAN BET THAT THE INNOCENT ICE PLAYERS ARE READING ALL OF THIS... IS THAT FAIR TO THEM? LETS ALL MOVE ON AND IF YOU NO LONGER WANT TO BE AN INDY ICE FAN... THEN THAT IS YOUR LOSS. THERE ARE MUCH BIGGER PROBLEMS IN THE WORLD.

NO!

Guess the truth hurts!

Anon said...CAN WE PLEASE STOP POSTING AND DISCUSSING THE ICE ISSUE....

First of all, stop screaming. Lay off the caps lock.

Second of all, NO. The point of this blog is to talk about these kinds of topics. This isn't communist Russia.

There's a simple solution if you don't like it...don't read it.

If the Ice win this series against Chicago...wait till they play Waterloo or CR on the road. Be ready for posters of the two jailbirds and all kinds of chants. I'm not saying that's right or wrong, just sayin'. It's going to get worse before it gets better.

Anonymous said...

Not gonna have to wait till Waterloo or CR, we know about the two jailbirds here in Chicago. I like you said if Indy does win the series its not going to get any easier on these boys when they play in CR or Waterloo or heck in college. Boy or boy wait till they hear the chants in college.

Anonymous said...

That is, IF they play in college.

I think it's unfortunate and wrong that these two players are allowed to continue to play in the post season. I am confident that the organization and coaching staff that my son is fortunate to be part of would NOT allow these players to continue to play and would probably not remain on the team. As a parent, I take extreme gratification in knowing this. Yes, the USHL is a business and sometimes unpopular decisions are made based on that fact; however, I don't think this type of decision is one that anyone can justify as being a good business decision and IMO reflects rather poorly on both the Ice organization and the USHL.

Anonymous said...

Like to thank all of you who are going to be bringing your signs and chants. Bring it on!!! Can't think of a better way to fire up the Ice for a game...

Don't be so sure about this. You may already have a player or two on your team that has broken the law. You would be amazed at what gets covered up. Also, wonder what your coaching staff and organization might do if their jobs were on the line. You might be suprised.

Unfortunate for the rest of the Ice players that are good kids and are just wanting to play hockey that they have to deal with all the judgemental people out there that want to punish them for what someone else did. Wonder how you would feel if your kid was on the Ice and had to deal with the nasty fans.....

WOW... so it is okay for the fans to verbally abuse and harass innocent Ice players. Sounds like maybe there should be some punishment coming from some of the organizations to their fans for such poor behavior. Maybe some of the fans will be arrested at these games. Wouldn't that be ironic.

YEP it sure fired up the STEELERS um I me Ice.

Nice win CHICAGO. Can't wait til the series is over come Friday night.

It was so appropriate that the two times Squires was sent in the sin bin that the them song from COPS was played for him. How fitting.

Hey Indy fan who keeps whining, are you really a player for the Ice? You kind of whine like Jake Skjodt. WAH WAH WAH

Good night
LETS GO STEEL!! (Chicago Steel that is...)

i enjoy your building in chicago with 300 fans (1/2 of which are ice fans).

wait a minute, the MEDIA is to blame for these boys being arrested? Did I read that?

yes, innocent until proven guilty. So if someone is arrested and accused of arson but is rich enough to bail themselves out of jail, and trial isn't for 3 months, then you continue to let them play in the NFL or NBA? Hell no you don't.

Same thing in Indy, just less severe crime, but still a FELONY. I'm pretty sure those security guards watching on black and white cameras in the back of the mall couldn't tell who was attempting to put clothes under their jackets. Especially, the way no one cares about hockey anyway in Indy.

We don't need to speculate or use the media to find out what they did. We know exactly what happened, kids go in dressing room, hide clothes, try to walk out but security stops them. What else do you need to know?

The only thing up for speculation is whether it was premeditated. Obviously they either coincidentally were wearing really baggy clothing that day or they planned too... That's the type of accusation that should be avoided before a trial. Not whether they are guilty or not, mall security doesn't just go around arresting random people and throwing random dollar amounts out. Give me a break.

USHL should have stepped in and laid down the law here since Indy clearly isn't capable of discipline.

And how do SIGNS and CHANTS harass the innocent Indiana Ice players. Fans should be arrested for hurting their feelings? boo hoo.

I guess then 4500 Lincoln fans should be arrested every weekend for telling the opposing team's goalie that he "isn't very good" and for telling the refs that they "aren't performing up to their abilities."

Cry me a river. These 2 boys should have thought about the consequences of their actions. I'm sick of people whining and defending crimes with "boys will be boys" attitudes. These kids are MEN. They know exactly what they're doing. Start taking some responsibility for your actions.

Being from Lincoln, I hear about college athletes having run ins with the law. 95% of the time, they are suspended until the case has gone to trial. These two alledged felons should have the same thing happening to them.

if anybody wants to actually talk about the indiana chicago series, that'd be cool...

rob madore looked pretty good on tuesday after being sketchy in indiana last saturday, i was impressed he recovered so well.

luca cunti is better than i previously thought also.

john carlson is ridiculous. he can do pretty much whatever he wants on the ice. very steady, calm, great anticipation and vision. No mistakes!

i wonder what the story is behind starting hoyle over darling in net in game three? is darling hurt? he played very well in game two...hoyle played fairly well in game three (minus the goal that was 22 seconds into the game...but when your defense is standing in the crease with you, what do you expect?)

anybody else have anything to say about the hockey?

Anonymous said...

yeah, go Chicago!

GO STEEL!

Thank you Indy Ice for allowing your jailbirds to play in the series. They did nothing on the ice to help you. If anything they were a thorn in your team.

5 - 0 STEEL

Oh Ya!

Anonymous said...

oh get over the jailbird thing, it had nothing to do with the series at all

chicago played very composed and got steady play all around throughout most of the series, and madore was excellent in goal.

good luck with waterloo!
