Knott Resigns

Looks like Des Moines will have a new coach come next season.

"Des Moines has been a good place," Knott, 29, said. "I've experienced highs winning a championship and had some of the best experiences I've ever had being part of a team, and also experienced some lows with a tough year on and off the ice this season.

Knott said he informed Buccaneers president Shawn Edwards of his resignation Monday and after that was offered the team's head coaching position for next season."From day one we were hoping he would be our guy," Edwards said. "He earned it. He decided college coaching was the way to go."

Edwards said the Buccaneers have received interest from more than 100 applicants, including some with NHL or other pro experience.

Edwards had not yet interviewed anyone for the job as of Wednesday afternoon but would like to hire a coach within 30 days, he said.

"I'll go after the biggest fish," Edwards said.

Knott saw the writing on the wall with the new owners, Edwards and Peled. I'm sure he couldn't get away from that failing organization fast enough.

Thank goodness he departed. Dont believe any college would like him coach as last season was terrible!

KNOTT WAS OUT OF HIS LEAGUE.
GOOD LUCK TO HIM. HE WILL MOST LIKELY NOT MAKE BE A COACH ON ANY DI OR D3 COLLEGE TEAM THOUGH. WHERE IS SIMON? MAYBE THEY WILL HOOK UP AND CREATE ANOTHER RECORD SEASON OF LOSSES.

Quite a few of the players did not like Knott even as the assistant coach and it got worse when he was moved up to head coach. Guess he got the message.

LAUGH OUT LOUD!! Lies and more lies from Edwards. Oh, I am sure they have gotten a 100 applicants to line up to coach the Buc's and put up with the likes of Peled and Edwards. There are not that many dummies out there! Good luck to Knott and Simon..they both saw the writing on the wall!!

Good luck to the Knotts in their move and new endeavor.

Todd is a nice guy but not a great coach.

The so called "big fish" will end up being a guppy. Nobody in their right mind would coach this franchise.

Knott will not end up coaching in a college. Maybe Midgets.

Heard Simon is out of the picture concerning the gamblers coaching position.

This has a lot more to do with the ownership of Des Moines than it does with anything else.

Simon and Knott were handed a championship team when they were hired. The 07/08 team was the result of their recruiting, coaching etc. These coaches and the organization should share the blame for the 07/08 mess! There were a few veterans and new players that could have formed a competitive core. The rest belonged in other leagues. This was apparent long before the trade deadline. They should have moved many more players (including some of the veterans with commitments)than the few that were released/traded and saved the season. (Contrast Lincoln, e.g., a team that recognized a goalie problem, found a replacement and saved the season for its fans) Instead, they let the season slip away, harmed the reputation of the franchise and disrespected a loyal fan base. Then, they added insult to injury by selling to a majority owner with an agenda that will keep this franchise in the basement of the league for a long time.

With all this "positive" news circulating around the Bucs, players that might have returned will not, players on the affiliate list will go elsewhere and players drafted in May (by the yet to be named coach) will not report.

No "fish" no matter how "big" will save the Madhouse on Hickman from the destructive course that management has chosen. I say melt the ice and create a midwest seaworld with Shawn's "big fish."

To poster #13. Glad no one will be seeing your ugly face at the arena next season.
Goodbye now and goodluck.

Who is going to be the coach in Green Bay? Sioux City? Tri-City?

Simon/Knott were handed the 2005-2006? That's funny, Simon took over mid-season in 2004-2005, finished last, then drafted in the 2005 Entry draft: Okposo, Purslow, Palushaj, Ben Ryan, picked up Petry mid-season and got in a trade Bendickson in mid-season.

At least a broken clock is right twice a day.

Take this to the Bank, Hall of fame coach on his way to Des Moines..I have Honor so I will not divulge but it's true. BIG FISH is very very true

TO THE ABOVE RESPONSE..THANKS SHAWN EDWARDS FOR MAKING A COMMENT! :) YOU HAVE ALWAYS BEEN FULL OF LIES AND WILL CONTINUE! WE WILL ALL SEE IF THIS IS TRUE! GOOD LUCK TO THE COACHES THAT LEFT, THEY MADE THE SMARTEST DECISIONS OF THEIR LIVES! IT WILL BE INTERESTING TO SEE WHO THE NEXT COACH WILL BE AND IF HE IS WILLING TO BE A PUPPET! :)

Let's see the Buc's traded away some good talent and made some very bad trades in exchange. They had two locals on the team..how many USHL team have not one, but two local kids? Answer: none. I heard their parents were "tight" with Shawn and never were traded, even though kids with more talent and points were. I think Shawn and Peled are a match made in heaven!!

HALL OF FAME COACH??????? Sieve is gonna coach!!!!!!! AWESOME!!!!!!!!

Have to agree that I am not sad Simon and Knott are gone. It was a horrible gut wrenching season. For the past 2 years they have been on the decline and thats a fact. Like some of the other teams in the league, things need to be changed.

Time to move on.

Sieveman, thanks for proving my point. They jump on with a last place team, get the benefit high draft picks and cruise to a championship. They follow this with 2 seasons of last place division finishes and were fortunate enough to make playoffs in 06/07 because every team made it. Things got progressively worse with the Bucs as the seasons passed and the results of their recruiting, trading and coaching began to show. Can you defend the the roster that these coaches started with, the roster they continued with and the way they coached game after game after what you saw at the rink from preseason to the bitter end? Next year would have been no better even without an ownership change. Now that the change has been made and quality coaches (and players) are running the other way, we fans are guaranteed that the coaching and roster will get worse.

Was Shawn Edwards seriously writing on a blog...how un-professional! I'm not suprised...

Anonymous said...

Word is that a ton of futures list players from Des Moines will not report there no matter who the coach is. Seems parents and players don't want to go to a un-health environment.

Anonymous said...

Time will tell who will show up and who wont. Bloggers will not know for sure until it happens. Anything else is just bs.

A down-ward spiral for two years? I bet you weren't saying or thinking that when Des Moines went to the final four last year.

Anonymous said...

I heard Knott is up for the Sioux City Job. Press conference at 3:00 pm today.

Anonymous said...

Well so much for the bs about college.
Actually knew they were talking to him for quite a while. Hope they have a better season than we did with him. Good ridance.

Anonymous said...

Doesn't Edwards look foolish now by fabricating in the paper that Knott was looking for a college job?! The people of Des Moines will one day realize what they missed out on here.

No regrets from me that he is gone. Gotta much better coach.

Whoever wrote this is an idiot. The USHL is a cyclical league, teams are good and then fall off (with the exception of Omaha). Simon one the title in 2006 and if the USHL hadn't come up with that stupid playoff system last year they would have one it again. They were clearly the hottest team in the league come playoff time.
