Mazzoleni Gone

Green Bay has terminated Mark Mazzoleni effective immediately. Press release is here.

This is a great move for the Gamblers. They have a quality franchise and they have had much success in previous years. I don't believe the Gamblers won a playoff game while Mark was leading the team in his 3 plus seasons, not to mention the big drop in attendance. They are ranked 3rd worst, last I checked, averaging more than Chicago and Ohio.

The Gambler head coaching gig should be an enticing one. They have a decent team, and always seem to attract some top talent.

Let's get a List going for the next Green Bay Head Coach.

Luke Strand- HC @ Wisc-EC/ former AC in GB.

Mike Corbett- AC @ Air Force/ From Green Bay area.

Who's Next?

Strand would be an outstanding choice. He is currently an assistant coach with the minor pro Houston Aeros that play in the AHL.

He would be great for hockey and the community.

I doubt Strand leaves the AHL - but it would be nice.

I don't think Tim Coghlin will jump across town.

I'm guessing someone like Steve Rohlik - a college assistant (UMD) looking for a first head coaching job.

I really wish they would hire PK, Siciliano or Bliss away from their USHL teams, but I doubt that will happen.

Or, could be someone else with league experience. Maybe the UWSP (and former Steel) coach.

Interesting Pick Don Harkins Ohio GM with full control GM and Coach. He knows and is up on all the young talent,That talent would love to play for him there lets face it Greenbay would be a great place to play as a winner.Hes gets alot out of his players and he knows the game, could be a fit. There are people who Hate him and people who love him, I know players that played for him like Pat Kane Peter Mueller and a couple dozen players who are there or almost there NCAA AHL OHL (NHL) who love him and would highly endorse him in a Heart Beat, which is exactly what is needed in Green Bay.

Detroit Hockey ...

Harkins - be careful what you wish for. For every NHL caliber player who loves him, there are 10 players that he walked over to make a name for himself.

Also, ask him why he couldn't coach in the BCHL or get a work permit in Canada...

This is a job for a solid college asst. coach who wants to get head coaching exp. on his resume. Will work hard and knows the recruiting trail. Steve Miller @ DU, Joe Bonnet @ CC, Mike Corbet @ AFA, Keith Fisher @ Princeton, Dan Brooks @ Brown could all fit the bill for the Gamblers

Are you crazy? after one bad year riddled with injury after injury? all he's done since he took the helm in DM was turn around a horrible franchise, on its way out of the des moines area, and turn it into a hot ticket again, in which led to the city making the nessessary improvments to 95KGGO arena. instead of bashing him, you should praise him for saving the dead franchise you most likely root for. i know he has his enemies but still, look at the whole picture. does mazzoleni have a clark cup? has he won a playoff game or series? Lets get serious here.

You're funny. Really? Done deal?

Among other factors, such as: the application deadline is March 21, no one learned of the opening until yesterday, PMI specifically said they prefer someone with juniors experience, they will have a large screening/interview committee..

.... Very, very, very doubtful.

I watched Des Moines play Omaha. I am a fan of Omaha but I give Des Moines credit and their Coach. Many players were injured and the players they did have played well, the goal tending just wasn't there. Don't be so judgemental of DM Coach and franchise.

Steve Johnson......lmao

Thank you to the Omaha fan---DM has a quality coach and franchise---the injury bug has bitten the team hard this year-it is a great goup of players and I looking forward to see them play next year.

Go Bucs

I know we are trying to find out the new coach but i'm just excited we got rid of the old guy. He was drop dead bad for this team. i found a Article from Harvard from when he was there and he resigned they seemed to have the same problems with him he didn't connct with his players. I am excited for anyone they bring in. A paper bag is better than Mazz was!!!!

Here is one they might want to consider. Brad Willner - 3rd year Head Coach/General Manager of the Alexandria Blizzard (NAHL). Spent 5 years as an assistant coach at St. Cloud, 4 years assistant coach Providence College. As a player won 2 National Championships with Lake Superior State and a Championship with the St. Paul Vulcans.

I agree, Brad Willner would be a great choice. Has all the background GB is looking for. The team he took over in Alexandria was terrible and now they are very competitive after a slow start to the season.

any news on who is applying for the job?
