Lincoln Stars rookie defenseman, Tyler Kieffer, has decided to give up his college eligibility and has signed with the Everett Silvertips of the WHL.
Kieffer appeared in 19 games for Lincoln, but recorded just 1 point on an assist. He was also a -4 on the season. Tyler, a Stillwater, Minnesota native, played previously for his Stillwater HS team. He had a spot with Cedar Rapids last season, but ultimately decided to return to high school and finish out his career there. Lincoln then drafted him in the futures draft the following October, and he made their team out of camp. His play was good enough for St. Cloud State to offer him a scholarship, in which he accepted. He was due to report to the Huskies next fall.
From the times I have seen Lincoln play, Kieffer never really stood out to me. I wasn't even aware he was on the ice for most of the games. Perhaps he was just getting used to the USHL speed, and was starting to break out.
It's unfortunate the USHL and St. Cloud State have lost another quality player. Good luck to Tyler.

Kind of a surprising move, imo. He's a big kid, who plays the body well..but that's all I saw. He didn't get a ton of ice time either. I hate to see kids walk away from a free education, but that's how it goes sometime. I wish him all the luck in Everett.
he blows, it's addition by subtraxction, lincoln will be better without him!
Either he could not get into SCSU or someone has sold him a line of bulls**t about his NHL potential!! really a stupid move for a average to below average USHL hockey player.
Sounds like it is partially an academic issue. He was being pushed back to '09 by SCSU anyway so I doubt it ends up being a big loss for the Huskies.
Sounds academic. I was reading Kevin Allenspach's blog and he mentioned that.
I personally know it comes down to not getting into SCSU and the push to the '09 season. Good luck anyway Tyler
