Walters is another example of the USHL..."use them and lose them". He had 2 solid years at Green Bay and gets dropped...too old? Then he gets drafted by Omaha and does not make it...passed up for a younger (inexperienced)player, again. He has a full ride to Bemidji and he gets treated like that by the "Top League". WOW! A nice thank you for a job well done!
Good luck to all the '87's after the upcoming showcase..who don't even have a scholarship yet...you too may get the old USHL boot! That '87 rule for the USHL is stupid!

I was surprised Omaha dropped him as well, but I'm sure Hastings did it for the better of him, as there is a lot of talent on Omaha's team and Shea may have had a reduced role.
Going to North Iowa will allow him to be a top player and score plenty of points.
I read the article about Walter's and 39 points in two seasons as a 18 & 19 year old is not much production. If you are a GM, do you want to waste a roster slot on a 20 year old who has the skills of a 3rd or 4th liner? Maybe in Chicago but not in Omaha.
Back in the late 1980’s, then-Musketeers coach Bob Ferguson came up with the idea of a Jamboree-style tournament, where all teams from the league would participate in games at one site. Originally tabbed the “Corn Bowl,” the games were played in Sioux City until Ferguson took the head coaching position in Des Moines in 1990. The Corn Bowl was renamed the Buc Bowl and it stayed in Des Moines through 2006.
Oh yeah...there are plenty of 90's in the league that had less then 10 points last year..are those the ones replacing him!? Some were even forwards that did not even have a goal!
They are definitely 1st line material..why because they are younger!?
These are the realities of junior hockey, produce or go away. This is a business for the coaches and owners. The amount of production Mr. Walters produced did not warrent him being given one of the over-age slots on the Gamblers or Omaha.
shea needs a place to regain his confidence after 2 years of being shuffled and confused in a difficult place. he should put up 50+ points in nahl, there is a significant difference between the leagues, but it will be good for him. i am not bashing nahl, just stating what most know as true, so don't start crying... good luck to him, i have heard nothing but good things about him.
Shea is the most "coachable" player I have ever worked with....to say that he and the Gambler coach didn't get along...right. Some kids just don't let crappy coaches get under their skin....That would be the prime example of Mr. Walters. Shea was never given a chance in Green Bay yet he stuck it out for 2 season...he is a better man than I. Maz would have had more than just a puck to the face. I just looked up Shea's stats after this weekend...6 points. Add that to the 22 and you have 28 points in 16 games...not too shabby Mr. Walters! Keep it up!

Ryan...you going to any of the games? I think I'm going to drive up on Sunday to watch the Lincoln/Chicago game at IBP.
I will be at the TEC for all the games there. Don't believe I will be making the trip to IBP though.
