Storm Updates

I have received a couple things worthy of blogging about regarding the Storm.

First, they have traded Michael Pilot to Ohio. I'm not sure what they got in return, but I'd imagine a draft pick or maybe even cash. Pilot, who is an 87, would bring veteran leadership to Ohio and would also clear up Tri-City's overage player problem, for a bit anyways. Though it sounds like Pilot doesn't seem too interested in going out to Ohio and playing. Who can blame him?

Second, it sounds like a defenseman has been injured. Maybe Brandon Martell, which if is right, is a huge blow to the Storm's defense. But, here's where that overage issue comes back into play. My source has informed me that Bliss Littler has added Pierre-Paul Lamoureux to the roster to take the place of the injured defenseman. Pierre-Paul is an 87, so that once again gives the Storm 5.

Protected lists are updated to reflect changes for Omaha, Lincoln, Ohio, and Tri-City.

The Storm continue to amaze me. They continue to bring in kids who will not have any college eligibility because their prior play in the CHL Major Juniors. PP Lamoureux (Captain Mario's brother)already has 3 years in Red Deer. Last season it was Tommy Mannino who has his Canadian college scholarship paid for with 4 yrs in the OHL. The Storm also had Scott Fletcher in for a brief time last season also.

I really thought the intent and spirit of the USHL was to expose players to the US college scouts/coaches. Everytime a roster spot is used for a major junior player, it is one less spot for a NCAA candidate.

Same reason Bliss teaches and runs the trap. He's about winning games not about getting players to the next level.

Off topic here but I see Vernon Vipers coach resigned and is coaching a different league. Watch for Hunter Bishop to maybe come back to the USHL because of this event.

Re: Hunter Bishop

Doesn't the Lincoln Stars have his rights?

Lincoln had his rights, they dropped him when he no showed their tryouts

The storm had 19 kids commited last I checked. only SF had more at 20. Over the last four years it appears that they move on more players than most teams and seem to have a good record every year.

Bliss teaches and runs the trap? Uh, noooooooo........

Never saw the Storm play the trap once last year.

And like a previous poster said, Littler has moved 19(or is it 18 players) from last year's team on to D-1. Pretty much blows your "not about getting players to the next level" claim right out of the water right there.

As far as what observer85 had to say, so what? Are you also on the major junior forums, bitching about how a North American kid loses a spot every time a European comes to play? Wah, wah, freeking wah! Not only does the NCAA scout the USHL, but so does the NHL. Why shouldn't those kids without U.S. college eligibility get a chance to play too?

Try learning something about the league, it's teams and coaches before pounding your keyboard.

In terms of development, having CHL veterans on your team may be beneficial.
If those players can pass on their experience, maybe it can be a developmental tool.

Of those players who are committed to colleges, how many committed prior to playing in the USHL and how many committed during the time they played in the USHL?
