More Commitments

This comes from one of my sources that I can't link to. Former Chicago Steel forwards, Danny Ryan and Justin Maciuk, have made their college choices. Both chose the D-III route. Ryan will be headed to University of Wisconsin-Stout and Maciuk will be attending University of Wisconsin-Concordia.

Ryan, a native of Niles, Illinois, spent 3 seasons with the Steel, amassing 27 points on 13 goals and 14 assists. He wasn't a flashy player, but he was gritty and was an excellent role player for the Steel. He also was a great faceoff guy for Chicago. Ryan was cut from Chicago after their tryout camp, and then went to Indiana to try and make their squad. Indiana already had quite a few 87's on the team, so there wasn't much room for Danny there.

Maciuk, a native of Antioch, Illinois, spent the 2005-2006 season with the Steel and posted 5 points on 5 assists. He played 1 game with Chicago this season before being picked up by Green Bay, where he also played in 1 game.

Good luck to both players at their respective schools.

ex Gamblers news from the wires:

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Penguins signed veteran goalie Ty Conklin on Thursday.

Conklin, 31, split last season between the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Buffalo Sabres, finishing with a 3.34 goals against average and a .897 save percentage. He will serve as the backup to Marc-Andre Fleury with the Penguins.

He has appeared in 76 career NHL games with Edmonton, Columbus
and Buffalo, and is 30-24-7 with a 2.65 goals-against average and a
.900 save percentage.

Jocelyn Thibault, Fleury's backup last year, signed as a free
agent with Buffalo earlier this month.
