USHL vs QMJHL

Thanks to Marc Foster for mentioning this.

Omaha and Indiana will play exhibition games with the QMJHL (Quebec Major Junior Hockey League) this fall. It will be fun and interesting to see how this plays out. I have faith the USHL can go and play tough against the Q. It will be interesting to see how the USHL does against some Major Junior competition. Keep your eyes open for this because it's something that has never been done before (at least not to my knowledge) and should make for some exciting hockey.

Good luck to Omaha and Indiana with these games, and show them what the USHL is all about.

EDIT:
Omaha and Indiana will each play two games. They will be facing the Quebec Remparts and Rimouski Oceanic. These games will take place in Quebec and Rimouski in September. The Indiana Ice site also has a press release.

Robitaille mentioned this last summer as a possibility. He also said they would like get involved in tournaments with Canadian leagues.

How were the teams selected?

It's about time!

omaha and Indy probly jumped at it cause they can easily finance sending their teams to Quebec. i think this is going to be great for the USHL as long as our teams can hold their own and i'm sure they will. i'm really excited to see how this turns out

one thing to note is the Q plays a month of exhibition games in August before the matchups with Indiana and Omaha, whereas Omaha and Indy will probably have played maybe 1 real game by the time this happens.

that could go both ways though. sure the Q teams will be a little bit more ready "teamwise" but the USHL teams will be chomping at the bit to get some real game action. hopefully our guys will show the junior hockey community that the USHL is just as good as Major Junior

Usually the Q teams have players away at pro tryouts too. And they also use their exhibition season as a long tryout process, though maybe they'll finish before these games.

In 2001, Spokane, Tri-City and Seattle of the WHL played a pre-season tournament in Bozeman, with the AWHL's Ice Dogs being the fourth team. Bozeman didn't win a game, but could have beaten Spokane if they had scored on the power play.

Well I will be a Lancer and Ice fan for 2 games. Go USHL.

Lets hope that Omaha and Indy are smart enough to get sufficient prep time in for this landmark tournament.

It appears as though the Q is really gearing up for this event.
Quebec and Rimouski already have an exhibition game slated for August 15.
Sounds kind of early. They must really be scared of getting beat.
When do the USHL teams start?

USHL teams typically come together for the first time in late August. I believe Indy will play Chicago twice in early September to help prepare.

playing Chicago won't help anyone prepare haha

It could get their goal scoring technique down :)

I feel the USHL has nothiong to lose and everything to gain, while the QMJHL has everything to lose and nothing to gain.

I think Q's ego is still bruised from the fact the USHL had more players drafted one year in the NHL (me thinks 2004).
