Round 2 Preview

Indiana Ice vs Waterloo Black Hawks

Waterloo was 5-2 vs Indiana this season, but only one of those victories was at the Pepsi Coliseum. Waterloo has won just two times at the Coliseum since Indiana joined the league. Indiana was led offensively by Garrett Roe (2-3--5) and Gregory Squires (1-4--5) while Waterloo was led offensively by James Marcou (2-7--9), Ryan Cramer (5-3--8), and Isak Tranvik (4-3--7). Goaltender Ryan Rondeau is a nice 4-0 vs the Ice this season.

Prediction: Ice win 4-3 in a close battle.

Tri-City Storm vs Des Moines Buccaneers

Des Moines went 3-1-3 vs the Storm this season. Four meetings between these teams went into a shootout, including a memorable 13 rounder. Tri-City was led offensively by Mario Lamoureux (2-4--6) and Calle Ridderwall (3-2--5) while Des Moines was led offensively by Richard Purslow (2-10--12) and Matt Read (5-3--8). Tri-City is fresh off a hard fought seven game series with Sioux City, while Des Moines finished up with Omaha fairly easily. Will it be more beneficial to have the rest, or to be in game mode? We will find out tonight.

Prediction: Buccaneers win 4-2.

So what kind of 2nd round records do all the teams need to have to advance?

Waterloo and Tri-City need just 1 win to advance. Des Moines and Indy will need 2 wins, or hope someone else in their division goes 0-2.

Dead on for the Waterloo/Indy matchup. I think Tri-City was just really worn out from their long series against Sioux City. They seemed to go into a bit of a shell after Ryan Peltoma went off the ice on a stretcher. Prayers go out to Ryan and his family.
