Bowkus Out In Indy

The Indiana Ice have announced they have fired head coach Jack Bowkus just after the completion of the regular season. Bowkus is replaced on an interim basis by Charlie Skjodt.

ICE ANNOUNCE COACHING CHANGE

04-14-2007

The Indiana Ice announced that GM/Head Coach Jack Bowkus has been relieved of his duties effective immediately. Scott McConnell has been retained as Assistant Head Coach.

Charlie Skjodt has been hired as interim Head Coach for the remainder of the 2007-08 season. A full press release will go out on Monday.

Seems odd that they would fire him right before the playoffs. Something of this same situation happened in the NHL as well, only Claude Julien lead his team to a division title before being fired prior to the playoffs. I hope the Ice can find a coach that can make them a more competitive team and is able to stick around longer.

I don't know how a team fires their coach before the playoffs, but I'm sure they wouldn't do it without some kind of reason.

no other team has an owner like the ICE. this team has had a revolving door in the coaches office. only constant is the owner, i say look there first.

Ryan, to be totally correct, Jack was fired beore the end of the season since he was not behind the bench for the final game. Neither was Charlie Skjodt, new interim Head Coach.

The only two mistakes the owner made this year was keeping Bowkus on in the first place and then waiting so long to fire him.

The guy was abusive to players/refs and was a black eye for the league. Its too bad his players had to put up with him so long.

as a parent whose child will be playing in the ushl this coming year, I have not heard of any abuse could you elaborate at what you call abuse? physical? verbal? mental? Did the players personally improve or regress?

verbal/mental---the players stagnated the 2nd half of the year--they worked hard but had no direction--most teams got better-- the Ice did not
