Thank God-lewski!

Today, I will be featuring Matt Godlewski of the Chicago Steel.

Godlewski, an Elk River, Minnesota native, is in his second campaign with the Steel. Last season, he played in 47 games and posted just 3 points. This season though, is different. He has improved his numbers all across the board, including 10 points in 44 games so far, plus 4 goals. Though his +/- rating, -7, isn't great, it has improved and it's not all that bad, considering Chicago has given up 200 goals.

Originally the "C", Matt has since been given an "A" and mid-season pick-up, Matt Moulakelis, now wears the "C". That hasn't stopped Godlewski from being an outstanding captain and keeping his teammates together. Chicago could be in even worse shape if it wasn't for these two leading and setting examples for their teammates. It surly can't be easy to keep a positive attitude and keep your friends and teammates interested when the season seems to be going so bad. You have to give much credit, well deserved credit at that, for these two to step up and lead this team.

Godlewski will play his college hockey at Princeton University next fall. Great school, so it shows Godlewski is not only a quality hockey player, but also a smart kid in the classroom. Matt was also the catcher for his Elk River HS team, so he's very athletic and excels in multiple sports. He's also an instructor back home in Elk River for hockey camps for younger kids. Not only is this kid smart and athletic, but he also gives back to his community and should be seen as a role model for those kids. Godlewski is definitely a class act.

I will try and have a new feature posted sooner than I got around to doing this one. Next one will be on a West team.

Hayes Has Options

U.S. Under-18 Team forward Jimmy Hayes, a late ’89 who is currently in the 11th grade, has been invited back to the NTDP next year, even though he will have aged out and be ineligible for the World Under-18s.

Hayes, who is expected at BC in the fall of ’08, has RULED OUT playing in the USHL. His draft rights are owned by the Ohio Junior Bluejackets.

There is a chance he could return to Nobles for his senior year. Needless to say, he can expect heavy pressure from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He's going to visit the QMJHL in the playoffs.

Hayes is draft eligible in 2008.
