Roster Moves

Not many to report today, but there are a couple.

First off, Tri-City Storm have traded 2nd year forward Sean Wiles to Sante Fe Roadrunners of the NAHL. Sean will join former teammate, Jay Fifield, in New Mexico. Wiles had recorded 6 points (3-3--6) in 17 games for the Storm this season. The Newton, Wisconsin native had 13 points (6-7--13) last season for the Storm.

In another roster move, the Chicago Steel have added forward Joe Whitney to their roster. Joe has been playing this season with Lawrence Academy, so I'm not sure if he will be joining the Steel right away or after his season is over at Lawrence. One could only hope he doesn't report at all. Whitney is a 1988 born player from Groton, Massachusetts and is a former futures draft pick of the Indiana Ice.

On the Omaha Lancers message board, it's been mentioned that coach Mike Hastings will be releasing under-achieving goaltender Scott Gudmandson. Gudmandson is supposed to be headed to Wisconsin next fall, but Mike Eaves may have second thoughts about bringing him in so quickly.

Why would one hope that Joe Whitney does not report at all?

because of the absolute mess that is the Chicago Steel

do you mean because of their horrible record or do they have coaching / managerial disarray?

I feel bad for the kids that play for Chicago...and also for the Ohio team. On another note...Sioux City sucks! Can you believe it? First place. WWED?

Ohio State, already struggling through a tough first half of the season that included the loss of its top returning scorer, appear set to receive another blow.

The London (Ont.) Free Press is reporting that Buckeyes freshman defenseman Kevin Montgomery is leaving the team to sign with the London Knights of the OHL.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Montgomery was a fourth-round draft choice of the NHL's Colorado Avalanche in 2006. He was also selected by London in its draft, and the article states that the two sides kept in touch.

Montgomery was a member of the U.S. National Development Program the last two years, and played on the under-18 team that won a gold medal in Sweden last spring. He was by-passed, however, for the upcoming World Junior tournament.

Unlike some other college freshman who leave for the CHL, Montgomery has been getting plenty of playing time. He has played 17 of OSU's 18 games this season, with one goal and five points.

Sean Wiles hasn't been added to sante fe's roster, and he has been out with an injury. It's possible tri-city was just freeing up a roster spot temporarily.
