Riders to be Sold?

Jeff Johnson of the CR Gazette is reporting that a sale of the RoughRiders could be completed, and the new owners would be the owners of the Flyers. Yes, the Philadelphia Flyers. I believe the current owner of the Riders tried to negotiate a better lease, but were unable to do so. Instead, they agreed to keep the current lease and search for someone who was interested in purchasing the team. The wait may be over, and this could be a good thing for the league. If NHL ownership groups are looking to buy teams in the USHL, the league must be doing something right.

Flyers owner could be taking over RoughRiders
The new owners of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders are ... the Philadelphia
Flyers
. OK, not really the Flyers, but the group that owns the NHL franchise.
A couple of sources have confirmed the likely new owner of the Cedar Rapids
RoughRiders
is Comcast Spectacor, a Philadelphiabased sports and entertainment
firm that owns the Flyers, the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers and Philadelphia
Phantoms
of the American Hockey League.
The sources said the deal is not finalized but could be as soon as this
weekend.
Spectacor owns the Wachovia Center in Philly, home to the Flyers and Sixers,
as well as the soonto-be-torn-down Wachovia Spectrum.
